Impact of Native Quercus robur and Non-Native Quercus rubra on Soil Properties during Post-Fire Ecosystem Regeneration

Following disturbances, ecosystems are more susceptible to invasion by non-native species. Furthermore, it is important determine the impact of alien tree species on soil regeneration processes during secondary succession. In this study, we analyzed effect native and late successional common oak (Quercus robur) red (Q. rubra) physicochemical (pH, carbon, nutrient content) microbial properties (microbial biomass [Cmic] respiration [RESP]) nearly 30 years after severe fire disturbance. Post-fire soils under Q. rubra had organic horizons with a greater mass, lower pH values, depleted (N, Ca, K, Mg, P) contents than robur. The robur as disturbance was similar that pioneer (Scots pine, European larch, birch, black alder), indicated in previous studies. Most studied (bulk density, N, P (RESP Cmic) parameters were within ranges found for post-fire Only Mg Na higher Our results indicate could be valuable addition reforestation sites disturbance, especially fertile microhabitats. Due depletion nutrients, care should taken when introducing sites, larger groups.
